Normal Service Will Be Resumed by Matt Peers
These photographs were captured during lunch time walks through Birmingham as the city was starting to recover from a pandemic and attempting to understand how to live with a ‘new normal’. They were made on a medium format camera and hand printed in Peers’ home dark room.
Each portrait is a glimpse into the lives of ordinary people - some looking defiant, others contemplative, all drawing the viewer in with a with connection and empathy. They are intimate and unobtrusive, capturing people in candid moments as they go about their daily lives, enduring a time of extreme social upheaval with dignity, stoicism, and sartorial flair.
This collection is a must for anyone interested in street photography, and for anyone who wants to see the beauty and complexity of Birmingham through a new lens.
